Manor Farm running club inspires residents

With community activities at the heart of this new Cambridgeshire development, Manor Farm Runners have been setting a fantastic pace for the close-knit neighbourhood in Stretham. One resident, Vince Cuming, tells us how it took him from occasional Sunday jogger to fundraising marathon runner!

“We moved to our new home at Manor Farm in April 2017, and as other properties were steadily being occupied around us, everyone became a friendly community. Two residents decided to create a running club and most of us joined in on a weekly Sunday morning run, nothing too strenuous, it was a social run that suited everyone. Slowly, we all ran more distance and discovered different routes in the green areas surrounding us.

I found this really inspiring and decided to set myself a bigger challenge, the London Marathon! I got my place through a gold charity space for Team VICTA (Visually Impaired Children Taking Action). I powered through all of 2018 and early 2019 entering numerous races, 5Ks, 10Ks, colour dashes and then the Cambridge Half Marathon, all as part of my training.

It was just under two months from completing the Cambridge Half that I would be running my first ever London Marathon – and what an incredible experience that was – I completed the 26.2-mile challenge in 05:02:36 on April 28th 2019.

It was very tough but I was determined, and I couldn’t have done this without the great support from the community where we live on Manor Farm, everyone was kind in helping me run the long distances in training and giving me lots of advice. I can officially say I am a marathon runner – thanks everyone!
