SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES

OUR MISSION IS TO ALWAYS HAVE COMMUNITY AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO

As a house builder, Laragh is different. We genuinely respect local communities and strive to enhance the locations where we build in the East of England. For example, to provide quality developments that benefit everyone, we engage closely with residents and organisations, listening carefully and responding to their ideas and concerns.

We’re dedicated to supporting local causes, providing event sponsorship and fundraising for charities. Also, to help young people enter the industry, we’re happy to offer work experience placements when possible.

Our thoughtful approach is woven into our day-to-day practice, and has been recognised with a Cambridge News & Media Property Award. Discover more about our corporate social responsibility work below.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

A great example of our corporate social responsibility is our collaboration with the Stretham and Wilburton Community Land Trust (CLT) on our Manor Farm development in Cambridgeshire.

We worked closely with the CLT to ensure that our new homes integrated seamlessly into the wider community. Our extensive consultation has resulted in a high-quality development that benefits the local people as well as new home buyers.

Manor Farm offers a new doctor’s surgery, a large green, footpaths, cycle routes, bridleways and small business units to help support the village amenities and economy. A third of new homes are affordable, and spread among other homes to create a balanced community, with all properties designed to be highly-energy efficient.

We also stay in involved with village life by supporting the annual Stretham Feast, an event which dates back to 1877 and holds a special place in people’s hearts. Having won the Cambridge News & Media Property Award for Corporate Social Responsibility for this work, it proudly demonstrates how we are devoted to building positive neighbourhoods as well as superior homes.

PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOMES

As part of our responsibility as a house builder, we provide excellent quality affordable homes through shared ownership and Help to Buy schemes. By thoughtfully designing our developments so affordable properties are set among standard properties, we create a greater sense of belonging for everyone.

A great example of this is our partnership with the Stretham and Wilburton Community Land Trust (SWCLT) on the Manor Farm development.

The CLT represents the interests of local people who struggle to buy or afford private rents in the area. In partnership with the Trust, we designed and built affordable homes, giving people new opportunities to buy on a shared ownership basis or rent from the CLT. The partnership also resulted in new amenities including a new GP surgery, green spaces and walking routes. Sales from our own properties on Manor Farm subsidised the cost of these community assets.

SUPPORTING GOOD CAUSES

Each year we carefully select not-for-profit organisations and events to support. If there’s a personal connection to someone at Laragh or a link to a community we work with, we will always consider getting involved.

BLUE SMILE

For this financial year, we have selected to support Blue Smile, a charity dedicated to transforming the mental health and life chances of children across Cambridgeshire. For more information, please visit: www.bluesmile.org.uk

OVER SPORTS YOUTH FC U9’S

The Over Sports Youth FC U9’s team is a local football team based in Over, the village where our offices are located. We are keen to support the local community where we can.

UNDER 14’S STRETHAM SPORTING TEAM

We are proudly supporting the Stretham Sporting Team, a local football team where our Manor Farm development is located.

SCRUBS FOR CAMBRIDGESHIRE

During 2020 we have proudly supported Scrubs for Cambridgeshire, an amazing community group created to help the NHS by making scrubs and bereavement bags for local hospitals, surgeries, care homes and hospices.

This incredible initiative saw the group grow to more than 500 members with 300 machinists throughout Cambridgeshire helping to meet a vast NHS need during the Covid-19 pandemic. They have achieved incredible work and our contribution was to say a massive thank you to all the wonderful people giving time to make scrubs for the NHS in our community.

LODE HALF MARATHON

Laragh’s sponsorship of the 2019 Lode Half Marathon and Family Fun Run supported a fantastic Cambridgeshire community event which raised more than £6,000 for charitable causes.

The fundraiser for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) Brain Tumour Research Fund was in memory of Edward Shrubbs, one of the founder members of the Lode Half Marathon. A spokesperson for the Event Committee said: “With Laragh’s help, we raised an amazing £6,000 for Brain Tumour Research in Edward Shrubbs’ name and hundreds of pounds more for the local Red2Green Charity. The event was a great success; it not only sold out well before race day, but was also enjoyed by a wonderful group of locals, supporters and stewards who all paid tribute. We would like to say a huge thank you to Laragh for all their hard work, support and in getting the medals and trophies to us.”

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. Laragh showed integrity time and time again in doing everything they said they would do. Throughout the project there has been an exceptional level of trust. Together we created a superb quality of scheme design and execution, which will really benefit our local community for generations to come.
